Perri Pierre, how are things going ?
Everything is great. I finished shooting "Three of One Kind" last december. I am currently writing two films, one of which, is a collaboration with an award winning film maker. I am really excited about that. And you would be surprised where it's going to be shot. But I can't comment about the location now.
So before you moved to New York and made a film that 's scheduled to air on National TV, you had been living in Okay. How was it? What was your best experience there?
Yes. I grew up in Okay with my lovely family, in a neighborhood called Gabions. I attended the school F.O.J part of FIC for 12 years. And it was just amazing. I spent some of the best years of my life in Okay. And it has become part of who I am. And it's forever in my heart. As far as the best experience, I have too many.
Were you popular in Okay?
I don't know if I should call it popular. But I can say though that I was known. Firstly because of my family, I feel like most people knew at least a member of my family. Secondly, I did commercials there. Matter of fact, I was about eleven when I did my first commercial ever, with a girl named Regine, which they played on the radio for weeks. The second commercial I did, was an awareness for clean streets in Okay. My dad and my best friend Rodney were part of it. I was also the lead singer of a band called "Amicus".
You were definitely popular. Now, Okay will host the national carnival parade this year. How do you feel about that?
Yes it will. I am actually very excited and happy about that. And so is everyone from Okay. They have been getting ready for that.
Have you ever been to the parade in POrt - au - Prince?
Yes. I went when I was 11 with my parents.
What would you say is going to be different in Okay?
During the day, the visitors will be able to enjoy the nice beaches, waterfalls, rivers, and all the beautiful attractions the south have to offer. I mean there is a lot. And I feel like the parade itself is going to be safer. Okay in general is a safe place to be.
Do you think Okay will be able to accommodate all those people ?
Definitely. Let's not forget , near Okay we have Port Salut, Camp Perrin, Ile A Vache, and other towns. All of which, are beautiful and have beautiful hotels. Therefore, people could stay in nearby towns. Most of them are just about twenty minutes away.
Do you have any information that you want to share? How many bands ? Hotels ?
Well, there is a website ,
carnavalnationallescayes.ht , with all the information. I invite everyone to check it even if you are not going.
Do you have any favorite bands when It comes to Carnival?
I am a fan of T-vice. I used to love King Posse too back in the days. But as long as it's good. I am on board.
Message you want to send?
To the people that are going, I want to say Welcome, you will not regret it. To the ones that are still thinking about it, I want to say definitely go for it. To the ones, that can't go... I want to say, still plan a visit to the south of Haiti some other time. It's beautiful there. I know there has been a lot of controversies about Okay hosting the parade, but every single residents of Okay have been contributing so that this parade will be one to remember. To everyone that will be in Haiti around that time, Be safe and enjoy!
