Jamaica drugs lord, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, has been sentenced to a maximum 23 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down Friday morning in the Southern District Court in Lower Manhattan in the United States.
The sentencing of 43-year-old Coke by United States district judge Robert P. Patterson in a New York court, comes just over two years after he was extradited to the United States. The sentencing hearing concluded that that Coke was "a vicious individual" who deserved the maximum sentence for his crimes.
Security forces had stormed his Tivoli Gardens stronghold to execute the warrant but Coke managed to elude them during the bloody fight which led to over 70 deaths.
Following his capture he waived his rights to fight his extradition.
Coke, who was an ally of major political and entertainment industry figures in Jamaica, ruled his West Kingston stronghold of Tivoli Gardens with an iron fist.
