Beyoncé won Song of the Year -- and smashed a Grammy record along the way.

The songbird was queen of the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hauling in six Grammys for the greatest night by a female performer in Grammy history.

She won Song of the Year with her omnipresent megahit "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Halo."

But the final high note of last night went to 20-year-old Taylor Swift, who screamed in glee after winning Album of the Year for "Fearless."

"Oh my gosh . . . my dad and little brother are losing their minds in the living room!" she said.

NO ONE ELSE IS IN LADY GAGA'S ORBIT FASHION-WISE

Before Swift's big win, the night was dominated by Beyoncé, who had previously been tied for the record with Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse.

Beyoncé, 28, also won Best R&B Contemporary Album, for "I Am . . . Sasha Fierce," among her other awards, presented before last night's live show.

Alternative rockers Kings of Leon scored one of the night's big surprises with Record of the Year for "Use Somebody," besting favored Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Swift

"I'm not going to lie, we're all a little drunk. But we're happy drunks," the group's lead singer, Caleb Followill, said.

Punk stalwart Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown" won Best Rock Album. Pink had the most high-flying, kinky performance of the night. The risqué rocker was soaked in water and suspended high above the Staples Center floor while lip-synching her hit "Glitter in the Air."

But the night's headline performance was a star-studded tribute to Michael Jackson. Lionel Richie, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Smokey Robinson and Carrie Underwood sang the late King of Pop's "Earth Song."

Another emotional high came when Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli performed "Bridge over Troubled Water" in a tribute to Haiti earthquake victims. With Post Wire Services
